Reflection exhibition

An exhibition displaying the paintings of Bahraini artists Samira Alshenoo, Shaikha Maryam Al-Khalifa and Maha Al-Mannai opened today at the Arts Centre. Culture Minister Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa opened the exhibition "Reflection", which showcased 30 artworks.
The artists used nature as a source of literal and abstract inspiration provided by the textures, colors and sounds of the natural world. Although interlinked with one common theme the diverse nature of their paintings emphasizes their own personal paths and points of view as expressed in their art.
Samira Alshenoo's artworks represent an integration of traditional Bahraini architecture and landscape. The work combines traditional buildings which are surrounded by tropical trees and plants renowned of the region. Culture, nature and tradition are key aspects of this artist's perspective. .
Maha Almannai's artworks evoke an emotional attachment to nature. The artist works with versatile and expressive techniques of freely applied paint using layering, dripping and carving for a dramatically textured finish.
Shaikha Maryam Al-Khalifa's artworks speak of a deep admiration and love for Arabic horses and hawks. The artist uses painting techniques which reveal a contemporary style of design. In doing so the artist transforms the images of the horse and hawk from typical portraits and creates a new composition utilising intricate stenciling details.
