Undersecretary of al-Azhar Abbas Shoman

Undersecretary of Al-Azhar Abbas Shoman said Al-Azhar did not issue any statements related to celebrations of Eid Al-Adha in Morocco
Unlike most Muslim countries, where the holiday was celebrated on Saturday, Morocco celebrated Eid Al-Adha on Sunday.
Since the Islamic months are dated according to the Islamic lunar calendar, the dates of religious celebrations may vary depending on the time a country observes the moon, he said.
Shoman said that sighting of the new moon differs from one country to another. Thus, each country has its own way to determine the beginning each Hijri month.
He added that there is no compulsion or obligation that Muslims must mark Eid al-Adha on the same day.
