HE President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met here with HE the United Nations High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al Nasr.
During the meeting, they discussed ways of enhancing cooperation between the government of Azerbaijan and the international organization. On the other hand, HE Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al Nasr participated in the opening session of the 4th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, in which he stressed the importance of promoting dialogue among different cultures and civilizations as a tool for soft diplomacy aimed at preventing ethnic, cultural or religious conflicts.
The UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations also participated in the high-level meeting of Ministers of Culture and Tourism, in which HE Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali represented the State of Qatar.
The International Organization for the Alliance of Civilizations organized three sessions during the two-day forum. The main session came under the title "Enhancing Dialogue as a Tool to Prevent Extreme Violence". Senior UN officials, representatives of Al-Azhar and civil society, Vice-President of Bulgaria, and NATO Secretary General took part in the session.
The 4th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue brought together several UN agencies, including the UN Organization for Dialogue among Civilizations, as well as members of about 50 organizations.
At the end of the forum, the participants pledged to combat extremism and strengthen measures taken by the authorities to reduce travelling to conflict areas.
