Albanian banking system is dominated by foreign-owned banks of Austrian, Greek and Italian origin. European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), said in its Banking Environment and Performance Survey that branches of Austrian banks operating in Albania are accounted for 28 percent of the capital. They were followed by Greek banks, which accounted for 25 percent, Italian banks with 12 percent, while domestic capital is accounted for 11.4 percent of the total. Other foreign-owned banks of Swiss, German, Kuwaiti and Turkish origin are also important in Albania's banking landscape.
