For the first time in the Netherlands there are more people with smart phones than with desktops, research conducted by market researcher GFK showed on Friday. According to the GFK, 67 percent or 8.5 million of the total population owns a smart phone, while in 2012, 7.4 million Dutch were smart phone owners. 65 percent owned a PC or desktop, but research also showed that desktops were generally used by two or more people. One in five smart phone owners indicated that they no longer used the smart phone for making calls, but for activities such as Whatsapp, email and Internet. In addition, the number of tablet users also increased in 2013. More than half of the total population has a tablet. The tablet is used for reading newspapers (31 percent), watching TV (24 percent) and listening to the radio (11 percent).
