Dubai - Arabstoday
Dubai police is making innovative use of internet to reach out to the citizens. The city\'s top cop has joined Twitter to give the common man easy access to senior officials. Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Chief of Dubai Police, joined Twitter last week. While his followers have been steadily growing, General Dahi is the senior most police official to join the microblogging site. \"I strongly believe in social networking sites because many people might not have easy access to officials through other means and these sites could be their only way,\" Lieutenant General Dahi told local media. The police chief is taking note of various issues faced by the citizens. \"I am focusing basically on people\'s concerns about Dubai Police and I refer them to the appropriate departments. However, if there are concerns about other departments, I will still refer them to those concerned departments,\" he added. Lieutenant General Dahi remarked that his main objective behind joining Twitter is to encourage other government officials to follow suit. \"It is important for government officials to be accessible to people, listen to their concerns and react. I will soon open a Facebook account as well,\" he said. Dahi Khalfan can be followed @dhahibintameem. At the time of writing this story he had 2647 followers on Twitter.
