The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) is organising, in cooperation with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), a competition on the best design for a monument embodying Bahraini women’s giving and advancement march.
The contest is launched marking the Bahraini Women’s Day 2017, themed “Women in the Engineering Field.”
During an introductory meeting at the Bahrain National Museum to announce the competition, the organisers said that the context includes specialised teams of male and female students in various engineering specialties, adding that the winning design of the memorial will be implemented on the ground to celebrate Bahraini women’s achievements and creative contributions.
Participation in this competition will be open for Bahraini students in the third year to three years after graduation, and for postgraduate studies at engineering colleges in the Kingdom of Bahrain in the fields of architecture, civil, mechanical, electrical, landscaping and urban planning.
Participants, not exceeding 30 years, shall fill in an e-form and provide the identification documents mentioned in it.
Participating teams shall be Bahraini nationals, and comprise 3 to 5 members from the engineering disciples, and others from supportive specialties, such as designing and art. They should also be residing in Bahrain from September to December, 2017, to attend the workshops and lectures to be held regarding the contest, as well as the personal interviews.
The participating designs should provide the best conception of Bahraini women’s achievements, and highlight the urban architectural development in the kingdom.
The winning design should also take into account the specificity of the proposed site of the memorial, and be based on an idea that reaches all age categories, and easy to implement.
The deadline for submitting the participation forums is September 6, and the names of the contestants will be announced on September 14.
The approved participants will take part in a mentoring programme from September 17 to October 12, and the final designs shall be submitted before October 24, and be examined by the jury on October 25-26.
Earlier this year, the SCW announced that this year’s Bahraini Women’s Day will celebrate women’s achievements in the engineering field for the past four decades.
