The 2nd Working Women Conference opened today at Crowne Plaza in the presence of Labour Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan. The General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions (GFBTU) is organizing the two-day event under the theme "Arab Women’s Contribution to Sustained Development".
GFBTU Secretary-General Salman Jaafar Al-Mahfoudh, officials, GCC and Arab trade unions representative are also attending the conference, scheduled to conclude tomorrow. Addressing the opening session, the minister stressed the importance of integrating Bahraini women’s integration in the labour market to achieve sustainable economic, scientific and cultural development.
"Engaging women in the development efforts is key pillar to promote society and achieve progress and prosperity", he said, hailing Bahrain’s strides under the reform project, which was initiated by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa. He congratulated Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women for Bahrain’s strides in promoting the status of women.
