Manama - BNA
The Supreme Council of Women "SCW" celebrates its 13th anniversary this month commemorating the Council's creation in compliance with the Royal Decree issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The SCW has directly been affiliated to His Majesty the King since its inception on 22 August 2001. The SCW is the sole point of reference for all official bodies regarding women affairs and has jurisdiction to decide and give opinion on all matters related the status of women directly or indirectly. All official bodies seek the opinion of the SCW before taking any action or decision in such matters which come under its powers.
The SCW's President Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa presides over the 16-member Council which includes expert public women figures who represent all spectra of the Bahraini society.
The SCW's General Secretariat is led by its secretary-general in the rank of a minister who assumes the Council's powers, achieves its objectives, lays down its plans and programmes related to women affairs and keeps the relevant authorities informed about the Council's resolutions and recommendations.
