Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim al-Khalifa

Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), praised Bahrain's pioneering initiative in allowing women to have access to regular education more than 88 years ago. She said this step enabled generations of Bahraini women to serve their homeland and contribute effectively to Bahrain's growth and prosperity.
HRH Princess Sabeeka was speaking as she patronised today the opening of the first educational forum for women held under the theme "Role of Educational Establishments in Woman's Sustainable Development". The event is organised by SCW in cooperation with the Education Ministry.
HRH Princess Sabeeka stressed that educating women and encouraging them to obtain the highest degrees while raising their awareness of their constitutionally-guaranteed rights helps them shape a comprehensive personality and boosts their capabilities and effectiveness.
HRH Princess Sabeeka lauded the key role played by the Education Ministry in assuming responsibilities, praising its pioneering step in setting up an equal opportunities committee. She paid tribute to the teachers for their efforts in passing down the civilisational, scientific and cultural knowledge to the posterity.
Education Minister Dr. Majid Al-Nuaimi described the forum as one of the dividends of cooperation between SCW and the Education Ministry in empowering Bahraini women and diversifying the opportunities of their participation in the development process. He added the forum is in tune with the international efforts to ensure a more just world for women as well as the UN millennium goals to provide quality education for all and boost gender equality. He spotlighted Bahrain's efforts and achievements in empowering women and boosting their status within the framework of the National Project for Education and Training Development.
