UAE's American University of Sharjah has emerged as the top university in terms of its proportion of international students, according to a study by the Times Higher Education.
The list of Times Higher Education - producer of the World University Rankings - has Hungary's Central European University at second spot and London School of Economics and Political Science at third position.
?Around 99 countries are represented on campus of American University of Sharjah and international students make up 84 per cent of the 5,000-strong student body, the study pointed out.
Experiencing a different culture, learning a new language and making friends from around the world - just a few of the reasons why students are opting to study overseas in growing numbers, a World Economic Forum report said.
London has 16 universities in the top 200 list.
Top five universities with the highest percentage of international students in 2017:
1. American University of Sharjah, UAE. International students make up 84 per cent of the 5,000-strong student body. Some 99 countries are represented on campus.
2. Central European University, Hungary. International students make up 77 per cent of the student body. Students come to the university from over 100 countries across five continents.
3. London School of Economics and Political Science, London. International students make up 70 per cent of the student body. More than 140 countries are represented.
4. Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin. Just over 2,000 are enrolled and about 62 per cent are classed as international students.
5. University of Luxembourg, Luxembourg. Around 55 per cent of students attending are from other European countries and beyond.
