Causes of violence and how to counter the phenomenon in the Gulf society is the major topic on the agenda of a conference that kicked off here on Sunday organized by the Kuwait University's Center for Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies (CGAPS).
The Arab society, families and social centers in are suffering from the phenomenon, Acting Director of the Kuwait University Professor Hayat Al-Haji told the opening session.
"This prompts us to work hard for combating such negative phenomenon that strange to the Arab society," Al-Haji added at the ceremony attended by CGAPS Director Suad Abdulwahab Al-Abdulrahman and a host of professors, academics and specialists.
Rigidity and intellectual and psychological violence top the causes of the phenomenon, she noted.
The major goal of the conference is to identify the causes behind the spread of violence, bodily, intellectual or psychological, as well as the means to eradicate the phenomenon in Kuwait and other Arab countries, through scientific and applicable frameworks, Al-Haji said.
She called for submitting the recommendation to be made by the conference to the Ministry of Education, in a bid to see them implemented on the ground.
The CGAPS focuses its activities on the Gulf and the Arab Peninsula, but this phenomenon extends to the entire Arab region, neglecting limits of geography and history, Director Al-Abdulrahman said that the Center.
Participants will discuss various relevant issues, she added, branding violence as a "virus" and "a problem that requires a radical solution."
