His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Athletics Association and Honourary President of the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation asserted that having Gulf University among the sponsors of the Khalid bin Hamad Theatres Festival For National Clubs, Youth Centres and People With Dsability is a great gain for the festival and the goals it is set for in its third edition.
The festival is organised for the third consecutive on October 4 to 21 at Muharraq Model Youth Centre by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs and the Media Office of HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al-Khalifa under by the patronage of His Highness.
It comes within Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Initiatives to support the youth of the Kingdom of Bahrain and engage them with different events and activities.
This year’s edition is themed #Let’s_Plant_A_Smile and aims at empowering the youth in the fields of cultural and humanitarian works.
12 plays will be demonstrated by local youth clubs during the 18 day long festival, which will also include three additional shows that will be held on the sidelines of the main shows.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa praised Gulf University and its initiatives to support the youth of the Kingdom of Bahrain and their events and activities.
Mohannad Ismail Al-Mashadani, Acting President of Gulf University, which the Strategic Partner of the festival, affirmed that the university is keen on supporting the initiatives of HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al-Khalifa to empower the Bahraini youth, especially in the fields of theatres art and cultural, humanitarian and artistic fields.
He highlighted that the inclusion of people with disabilities in the festival reflects His Highness’s concern about this important category of the Bahraini society.
Mariam Zaiman, Bahraini Renowned Actress and Member of the Khalid Bin Hamad Theatres Festival Jury said the Bahraini youth is annually longing for the festival, which serves noble goals set by His Highness and pursued by the youth of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
She asserted that the jury will spare no effort to ensure that all the participating performances are thoroughly studied to grant the team that demonstrates the best play the honour of winning the title of His Highness’s festival.
Zaiman predicted strong competition between the participating 12 teams, who were chosen among 32 teams that initially applied for the festival to compete and perform before the audience and judges.
As for the teams, their rehearsals continue with less than three days separating them from the festival. Al-Naeem Youth Centre members are preparing for their play “Dialogue of a Butterfly” that they will perform in the festival.
Abdulla Al-Qattan, Director of the play, expressed the team’s gratitude and appreciation to HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al-Khalifa and the organisers for allowing the team to take part in the festival, which he said will be a landmark in the acting career of the centre.
