Birzeit University celebrated the official opening of its television studio on May 16, 2016 a TV studio for the Department of Media. The main objective of this studio is to provide mass communication students with the latest media technologies.
The studio features a range of industry-standard equipment with an amount of $100,000, donated by Birzeit University and other organizations. The Palestinian Authority has offered a number of cameras and 27 other cameras and TV equipment are donated by Al Arabiya TV Chanel. In addition, Paltel Group and Birzeit University’s Media Development Center has provided the studio with the furniture and logistics needed to complete the studio.
In the inauguration ceremony, university President Abdel Latif Abu Hijleh expressed his excitement towards the new studio.“ The inauguration of the TV studio, which is built on our longstanding traditions of excellence in journalism and mass communication, is a major step toward our goal of becoming the pre-eminent university site for teaching and research about media.”
The Dean of the Faculty of Arts Majdi Al Maliki stressed on the importance of combining between knowledge, and practical and technical experience to enable media students for pursuing their future profession successfully. “This studio will ensure that or students are able to think critically about the modern and ever-changing media landscape.”
General Supervisor of the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation Ahmad Assaf assured that this studio is anchored “in the recognition of the key role of media in open societies and the power of information in the modern world.”
