Kuwait education ministry storage facility not affected by fire

The Ministry of Education's storage facilities have not been affected by a nearby fire that, instead, caused damage to an old furniture scrapyard, according to a ministry official on Tuesday.
The fire broke out as a company, which had bought the scrapyard from the ministry last Sunday, was transporting goods, Assistant Undersecretary for Financial Affairs Fahad Al-Ghais said after he had personally inspected the site.
After receiving a distress call, fire squads rushed to the scene and managed to put out the fire just in time, preventing it from reaching a chemicals' and laboratory equipment storeroom in the basement of the ministry buildings.
Kuwait Fire Services Directorate squads have managed to put out the majority of the fire that has engulfed a huge area estimated to be around 5,000 sq/m, he said, adding that there were no human losses recorded.
However, there has been damage to the scrapyard, which included old chairs, tables, water tanks and air conditioning units.
The fire department's investigation unit will assume its responsibilities into the incident after the fire is completely put out, he added.
Some five squads came together to put out the fire which was discovered at noon, a fire department official had earlier said.
