Two people were shot in suburban Chicago Thursday, prompting a lockdown that delayed the opening of city schools, police in Romeoville said. The "soft lockdown" was lifted by mid-morning as police investigated the shooting, which occurred around 7 a.m. CST two blocks from an elementary school. The two victims were transported to a hospital. Their conditions were not immediately announced and it was unclear whether the alleged gunman had been caught, the Chicago Tribune said. Parents were initially notified they should bring their children to school, where they would be escorted inside, but that plan was changed and Valley View School District officials told families to keep their students at home until the lockdown was lifted, WBBM-TV, Chicago, said. Some middle schools students who had been moved to a recreation center early in the day were bused back to their classrooms.
