Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin urged staff of the Education Ministry to go for \"total transformation\" to further improve its delivery system. Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said the transformation should start with its administrative machinery which had been desrcibed as \'top down\' and needed to be more \"lean\" encompassing all levels. \"This (transformation) is needed so that new ideas which add value to the ministry\'s functions can be implemented,\" he said at the ministry\'s Excellent Service Awards Ceremony for 2010, here. \"Our focus should no longer be discharging our duties but thinking how we can do more to ensure the ministry\'s customers are satisfied when dealing with us,\" he stressed. Towards this end, Muhyiddin said the ministry\'s staff should prepare themselves to be public servants who could \'multi-task\' and be \'multi- skilled\'. He also reminded them to keep abreast of the rapid changes taking place all around so as to ensure they remained competitive and dynamic. \"Investment in providing facilities and infrastructure that are suitable in terms of locations that are conducive, effective teaching curriculum and skilled educators can lead to organisations producing workerS who are always relevant to changing needs. \"This transformation exercise must reach the school level becaue I believe this will continue to make a big impact on the learning process and shaping students to fulfill the country\'s human capital needs,\" he said.
