So Television, makers of The Graham Norton Show, is the first indie to agree a global deal with BBC iPlayer to make titles available in all 16 territories where iPlayer is operating. The deal marks the first global acquisition deal from a third party distributor for the pilot of the global BBC iPlayer. A mix of classic and contemporary shows from The Graham Norton Show catalogue, made by So Television, will be available in all 16 territories on iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. Speaking at the IP &TV Conference in London, Matthew Littleford said: “The global BBC iPlayer at its heart aims to bring the best of British programming to an international audience. Securing these deals with partners like So Television continues to allow us to fulfil that ambition.” The news follows December’s announcement that a new programme slate from independent distributor DRG would be made available on iPlayer including Peep Show, Shameless and the BAFTA award-winning Black Books. Also part of the line-up are Green Wing and Father Ted. These shows have been available from January 2012 in some territories, alongside titles from the BBC catalogue. The global BBC iPlayer is currently available in 16 markets: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, The Republic of Ireland, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. The programmes from DRG are available to subscribers in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland in January.
