Interim President Adly Mansour issued a decree on Thursday amending certain provisions of the law on journalism in Egypt. The amendments stipulate that the Supreme Council of Journalism will perform its duties during the interim period until a constitution is ratified and a parliament is elected and a new legislation regulating journalistic work is brought into place. During this period, the council has all powers to end tenures of heads of press institutions and editors in chief and appoint new ones. Any new appointees to be chosen by the council will serve for a two-year term, according the presidential decree.
