Egypt's Judges Club on Friday denounced recent media reports that criticized court rulings, including one issued by the Court of Cassation in a terror cases.

"All Egyptian courts with all degrees of judiciary deal with all defendants in line with the same procedures and ensure their rights to appeal against rulings according to the law regardless their political affiliations or beliefs," the club said in a statement.

"When hearing cases that are of interest to the public opinion or not, the Egyptian courts do not hold exceptional trials and stick to trying the defendants before their normal judges," it added.

On Wednesday, the Court of Cassation turned down death sentences against 149 defendants charged with storming a police station in Giza and killing two police officers, and other 12 policemen.

The court also canceled a 10-year jail sentence against one defendant implicated in the massacre, ordering a retrial for all defendants.

The police station in Kerdasa was attacked on August 14, 2013 in deadly acts of violence.

The violence followed a crackdown by security forces on sit-in protest camps in Cairo and Giza staged in support of ousted president Mohamed Morsi.
