Egyptian journalists' syndicate

Head of the Syndicate of Journalists Yahya Qalash met with chief editors of national, independent, partisan newspapers to discuss press-related articles in the anti-terror bill.

Journalists at the meeting said the bill should stipulate that "it was exceptional and applicable only for a specified period".

They asserted all journalists are keen on doing their jobs in fighting terrorism and supporting the Armed Forces in wiping out terrorism.

The Cabinet passed the bill last week on the same day that coordinated terrorist attacks took place in North Sinai against army checkpoints, leaving dozens killed and injured.

A bill article makes publishing news that is not in line with official statements on terrorist operations punishable by up to two years in prison.
