Mahmoud al-Azaly, news correspondent at Egypt’s Nile TV channel, has threatened to commit suicide after a decision to appoint him correspondents’ director failed to come through. “The decision was taken recently but it was never executed,” he said. Al-Azaly was then transferred to another job – director of editing and translation – at which point he threatened to hang himself in protest. Speaking exclusively to Arabstoday, al-Azaly claimed he was under investigation due to comments made about the transfer.
