Egyptian writer Fatima Naoot

El Sayyeda Zeinab Misdemeanour Court handed down on Thursday a six-month suspended sentence to writer Fatima Naoot over blasphemy charges.

On March 31, a Cairo appeal court rejected an appeal filed by Naoot against her three-year jail sentence and 20,000-pound fine.

In October, Naoot described in a post on her Facebook account Eid Al Adha's tradition of slaughtering sheep as the "greatest massacre committed by human beings."
