A cameraman of the Rusiya Al-Yaum satellite news channel, which is a branch of Russia Today TV, was injured Sunday while filming a report in Cairo, the RT said in a press release. Mouhtar Muhammad, the cameraman, was attacked by unknown people and received several blows by a stick on the head while taking footage of the activists who were making graffiti on a wall near the office of Egypt’s ruling Moslem Brotherhood. According to the press release, Mouhtar Muhammad himself said the attackers had come out of the building occupied by the headquarters of the Freedom and Justice Party. Physicians at the hospital where he was taken put six stitches on his head. They told the RT his health was not in danger. Newsmen reporting for the mass media, which the incumbent Egyptian authorities accuse of distorting reality, are increasingly often turning into targets of physical assaults in Egypt. The authorities claim that reporters bring up the discouraging events and play down “the real achievements of the revolution” along with this.
