New York - Arabstoday
Subaru chose the New York Auto Show to display its new car for America, the XV Crosstrek, which is set to succeed the Outback Sport. It has the same 148hp 2.0-liter boxer engine and the same CVT transmission that features the Active Torque Split version of Symmetrical AWD. That is, an electronically managed continuously variable transfer clutch that actively manages power distribution based on acceleration, deceleration, and available traction. The Active Torque Split system automatically transfers more power (up to 100 percent) to the wheels with the best grip should slippage occur. A manual gearbox is also available with a slightly different AWD system. That system is based on a viscous-coupling locking center differential to distribute power 50/50 front to rear. Slippage at either set of wheels will send more power to the opposite set.The XV Crosstrek, a crossover that will compete in the marketplace against the likes of the Mitsubishi Outlander, Suzuki Grand Vitara, Nissan Rouge and Mazda Tribute, has an impressive ground clearance of up to 8.7 inches. It can therefore climb without worrying too much on most American pavements. For enhanced safety, Subaru installed a driver knee airbag, while standard front side pelvis/torso airbags and side curtain airbags offer front and rear outboard seat coverage.There\'s no official word, but the car is expected in showrooms by the autumn as a 2013MY priced at over $20k.
