MINI is working on a brand new, third generation Cooper hatch, that promises to do away with all the faults of the current model. Instead of lowering the bonnet line like we wanted, they’ve made the whole car considerably bigger, pushing it comfortably into the C-segment. This also means that there will finally be room in the back for real adults. But while the practicality has been improved, something else has been lost - the MINI is now very maxi, with only the roof shape instantly recognizable. However, the bonnet is now massively sloped and wheelarches are the size of manhole covers. Other changes include a sloped A-pillar and a small, elongated grille. This reportedly hides a new three-cylinder engine turbo that replaces the normally aspirated units of the One and Cooper. However, these are just rumors at this point, with BMW rumored to be entering a small engine development venture with hyundai.
