Manama - Arab Today
Bahrain's latest contribution to the supercar world, the 2015 McLaren 650S, was unveiled yesterday (July 15).
McLaren Automotive, in which the Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company has a 50 per cent stake, showcased its new BD120,000 ($316,522) sports car at Moda Mall, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
The car made its industry debut in March at the International Geneva Motor Show and is now available in Bahrain from local dealer Al Ghassan Motors.
Company regional manager Auf Abdulrahman Mokhlif Al Delaimi told the GDN that orders had already been received with delivery expected by September.
"As always with McLaren, the new design is there for good engineering reasons," added McLaren Automotive chief executive officer Mike Flewitt.
"The newly designed front bumper improves down force and steering turn-in.
"The high-speed handling balance is now even better. The LED lights use less power and last longer."
The car boasts an impressive 641 horsepower delivered by a V8, twin turbo, 3.8-litre engine.
It accelerates from zero to 100kmph in just three seconds and can reach speeds of 329kmph.
Individual customisation means the price of the 650S could be even higher than the BD120,000 base model - with the vehicle on show at Moda Mall, with a full carbon fibre body, costing BD150,000.
"McLaren is a fast moving company, continually striving for improvements and technical advantages," said Flewitt.
"We are always seeking to innovate, to be the class leaders, to bring new technologies and thinking to market. That's our Formula 1 heritage shining through.
'Everything we've learned from the 12C and the McLaren P1T has gone into the design and development of the McLaren 650S."
He described the new McLaren as an everyday car that did not compromise luxury for speed.
