The world is waiting with baited breath for the new generation of Mazda MX-5, mainly because it will spawn a new Alfa Romeo Spider. But before that happens – and it’s going to take a while – Mazda will squeeze the current-gen MX-5 for every last drop of juice it’s got. At the Leipzig motor show in Germany they revealed the MX-5 Yusho, a concept model with 240 horsepower. Yusho is Japanese for ‘Victory’ (anybody thinking about Johnny Drama right now?), and it features matte white paint job, 17-inch alloys, and a new carbon fiber rear diffuser with twin central exhausts which is kinda cool. The interior is garnished with Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and Recaro sports seats. Think of this car as the ultimate version of the MX-5 with more bells and whistles than the basic models. The Yusho is powered by a 2.0 liter four-banger tuned with Cosworth parts and a sport exhaust system. It makes 240 hp and 275 Nm of torque, which gives the car a top speed of 240 km/h. The thing is, the MX-5 has always been good because it was simple and straight-forward, no extra fuss. This 240-hp version might be fast and fancy, but it sort of sully the car’s pure bloodline.
