The 2014 Audi S3 hatchback has been spotted near the Nurburgring undergoing some heavy testing. Many a model has found the famed German track a great place to push its limits and Audi feels it is the perfect proving ground for their new hatchback. The new Audi S3 uses the MQB platform and is roughly 220lbs lighter than the previous generation. It runs on an expected brand-new 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with roughly 260-280hp.The current S3 cranks out 261hp, however with all the weight-savings measures taken Audi promises improved performance. It should be mated to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission. The 2014 Audi S3 hatchback features two doors, while a four-door A3 Sportback is in the works along with an A3 sedan. The A3 will make its way into dealerships in Europe this fall and could arrive in U.S. showrooms towards the end of 2013.
