A new Carbon Emissions-based Vehicle Scheme will take effect in Singapore starting from Jan. 1 next year, the Land Transport Authority said on Friday. The new scheme will cover all new cars, taxis and newly- imported used cars, it said. Car buyers are advised to look out for labels with the logo of the authority at showrooms under the mandatory fuel economy labeling scheme. The label is required to be put on cars that have been approved by the Land Transport Authority and provides the carbon emissions and fuel efficiency performance of the car model. Only cars that are approved by the authority under the fuel economy labeling scheme can be registered for use from Jan. 1. Low emission models will qualify for rebates under the Carbon Emissions-based Vehicle Scheme.
