Miami - UPI
Tropical Storm Gilma whirled out in the Pacific Ocean Tuesday night, hundreds of miles off the southern tip of Baja California, U.S. forecasters said. The National Hurricane Center in Miami said in its 11 p.m. EDT advisory that Gilma was producing maximum sustained winds of 60 miles per hour as it traveled west-northwest at 13 mph about 615 miles off Baja California. Tropical storm-force winds were reaching out up to 70 miles from its center. Because it was so far out in the Pacific, no coastal watches or warnings were in effect, the hurricane center said. It was possible Gilma could reach hurricane status Wednesday.
