Energy Minister Dr Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza

The phase II expansion of Al Dour power project is expected to bring power to the grid by the end of 2017, the Minister of Energy Dr Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza said.
The minister told the Bahrain News Agency that the nation will need to add more capacity because the annual rate of increase in consumption is between five to six per cent.
“With the current generation capacity we can go upto the second half of 2017. The second phase of Al Dour power plant will be commissioned. This will bring enough power to meet the extra demands. We are already working towards the plan of commissioning the second phase and bringing it on the grid,” he said.
Dr Mirza said that Bahrain presently has enough capacity to meet its domestic consumption. “We have a capacity of 4,000 MW. So far we have used 3152 MW. That leaves enough to cater even for the new developments at the Bahrain Business Bay,” he added.
Commenting on the consumption pattern arising with the opening of the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay, the minister said that there was no cause for worry, since the development and all the infrastructure in the Bay was already factored in.
