Kuwait - KUNA
Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KEPS) on Saturday ruled out the possibility of locust swarms' immigration to Kuwait in the coming period. In a press statement, KEPS member Wasima Al-Hoti said the environment is not suitable for such immigration for several reasons. Al-Hoti, also a professor of the Faculty of Science at Kuwait University, said locusts usually migrate in search for food in green areas and Kuwait has no green areas now due to the end of the rainy season, the high temperatures, the intensity of the sun rays and high water evaporation rate. She, moreover, noted that the dust obstructs locust vision, and Kuwaiti dry soil is not suitable for locusts to lay eggs in the country.
