The Kingdom of Bahrain an Sudan have today signed a key agricultural agreement. Under the deal, Sudan hands over official an agricultural land covering 42,000 hectares for agricultural and animal husbandry investment. Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Dr. Jumaa bin Ahmed Al-Kaabi sealed the agreement with Sudanese Northern Governorate Wali (Governor) Ibrahim Al-Khedher Al-Hassan. Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry Undersecretary Shaikh Khalifa bin Isa Al-Khalifa, Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) First Deputy Chairman Ibrahim Zainal, Samir Nass and Khalid Al-Amine attended Dr. Al-Kaabi hailed bilateral cooperation, commending the decision of the Sudanese Government to allocate Bahrain land for agricultural projects. He stressed Bahrain’s efforts to promote agriculture alongside other sectors, being a cornerstone of Bahrain’s comprehensive development. The initiative is also in line with Bahrain Economic Vision 2013, a roadmap for the future endorsed by the wise leadership in order to ensure citizens decent living conditions. The minister affirmed Bahrain’s commitment to implement unified GCC laws aimed at promoting food security. He asserted Bahrain’s commitment to other agreements and memoranda of understanding sealed with Arab and friendly countries to promote agricultural cooperation. He cited also the agreement signed today with Sudan, adding that Bahrain is also signatory to various international conventions on protecting biodiversity. He described the agricultural development investment scheme in Sudan as crucial step forward in the efforts aimed at consolidating Bahrain’s food security in line with the millennium Development Goals. He hailed His Royal Highness Prime minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier for their support. He paid tribute to Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, wife of HM the King and President of the National Agricultural Development Consultative Council for her keenness on promoting the agricultural sector.
