A suicide bomber on Monday attacked a military checkpoint on the outskirts of Maiduguri, northeast Nigeria, causing casualties, civilian vigilantes helping troops in the fight against Boko Haram told AFP.

The blast happened at the Jimtilo checkpoint on Maiduguri's southern fringe at about 12:10 pm (1110 GMT), they said.
