Japan, the United States and South Korea on Tuesday called for an urgent UN Security Council meeting to discuss North Korea's launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), the Italian council presidency said.

The meeting, expected to be held Wednesday, will address the launch of the ICBM which the Japanese defence ministry said probably fell within Japan's exclusive economic zone.
