- A global treaty banning nuclear weapons was adopted Friday at the United Nations despite opposition from the United States and other nuclear powers that boycotted the negotiations.

The treaty was adopted by a vote of 122 in favor with one country -- NATO member The Netherlands voting against -- and one abstention.
