French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said Wednesday that a foiled jihadist plot against a church targeted "the Christians, the Catholics of France".

"To target a church is to target a symbol of France, the very essence of France," said Valls after visiting two churches in Villejuif outside Paris that were the apparent focus of a foiled jihadist attack.
