New French President Emmanuel Macron touched down Friday in Gao, northern Mali, to visit French troops stationed in the troubled west African nation on his first official visit outside Europe.
Macron will hold talks with Malian counterpart Ibrahim Boubacar Keita on the fight against terrorism and Mali's rocky path back to normality following a 2015 peace deal, as well as meeting some of the 1,600 French soldiers based in the city.
