Brazil's former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Thursday -- a day after he was convicted and sentenced for graft -- that judges and political opponents were "destroying democracy."
In his first public reaction to the verdict handed down on Wednesday, Lula implied the judgment was aimed at preventing him being a comeback candidate in presidential elections next year.
"They're destroying democracy in our country," he told reporters in Sao Paulo.
