Gold medal for the Movano: The Opel van has won the Green Van 2015 award, beating 15 rivals in the class for vans and small vans up to seven tons. The Movano’s combination of low fuel consumption, achieved thanks to the BiTurbo fuel-saving technology, high payload and large load capacity convinced the jury from magazines VerkehrsRundschau and Trucker and gave it first place in the environmental ranking.
“The Movano impresses with its flexibility and its transport capacities in daily operations. Last year, we treated our load carriers to new, exemplary BiTurbo diesel engines with ultra-modern fuel-saving technology. It is therefore just a kind to the environment as it is to the pocket – a concept that also worked extremely well in the environmental ranking,” said a jubilant Steffen Raschig, Opel/Vauxhall Director Commercial Vehicles, after accepting the award for the most environmentally friendly small van at the Transport Manager Dinner in Bonn yesterday.
The Opel Movano was the only contender in the light commercial vehicle segment to achieve over 6,000 environment points, leaving the second placed vehicle trailing by more than 170 points. There are good reasons for the landslide victory: The 2.3-liter BiTurbo CDTI with 120 kW/163 hp only needed 8.5 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers, which is equivalent to CO2 emissions of 268 grams per kilometer, in the test conducted by VerkehrsRundschau and Trucker. The value is derived from the actual CO2 emissions including the fuel production (Well-to-Wheel). The Start/Stop system that comes as standard also had a positive impact on the result. In addition, the Movano boasts a hold with a volume of 13 cubic meters, low curb weight and a payload of 1.2 tons. All this makes the Opel Movano a well-balanced green transport all-rounder decorated with the 2015 gold medal in the environmental ranking.
