Top Khaleeji singer Arwa will woo crowds in the UAE capital this Wednesday as part of Abu Dhabi’s two-week hosting of the Volvo Ocean Race fleet in its purpose-built Destination Village on its stunning Corniche Breakwater. Drawing on traditional songs, Arwa has grown in stature over the last decade having released four albums “Aktar Men Rouhi,” “Enta Aarefni,” “Einikk” and “Ghasb Annak.” For Abu Dhabi fans, Arwa — who currently presents MBC’s “Akher man Yeaalam” show — will perform a selection of her favourite hits in a free-to-attend concert at 9pm. Arwa is the latest act to join the growing list of performers playing in the UAE capital as part of the historic hosting of the Volvo Ocean Race fleet, its sea hardened sailors and the many fans from across the world. Having kick-started festivities with seven-time Grammy Award winning British rock group Coldplay on New Year’s Eve, global DJs Little Louie Vega and DIPLO will also play free-to-attend concerts on the 5th and 12th respectively. In addition to music acts, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) – which is behind the emirate’s Volvo Ocean Race stopover, the first to be staged in the Arabian Gulf – is presenting a packed entertainment, hospitality, sailing and activity programme at the Destination Village until Jan.14 when the fleet sails on the third leg to Sanya, China. The Destination Village, the size of eight football pitches, is open free-of-charge to the public daily from 11am until 11pm with extended hours on weekends. It is alive with family activities and entertainment including exhibitions, shows, simulators, game zones, restaurants, cafes and shops. In addition to daily, free on-shore activities, a full sailing and watersports programme is running throughout the fortnight for kids and adults. Volvo Ocean Race will also run classrooms and practical workshops to teach sailing to all ages, whilst a number of local racing regattas will be held for sailing aficionados and newcomers.
