Forces of the Syrian regime, namely the air force, have intensified attacks on various regions controlled by opposition groups across Syria in the past hours, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The regime military aircraft, including warplanes and gunship helicopters, have carried out at least 122 strikes since late Saturday, dropping "barrel bombs" and unleashing air-to-surface missiles on opposition positions in several towns and villages throughout the country, said the Syrian Observatory in a statement released late on Sunday.
It said the air force carried out at least 84 raids, including 43 sorties on areas under control of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant in Deir Al-Zor, buildings in Al-Tabaqa, its surroundings, Al-Raqqa, villages around Aleppo, in addition to 41 strikes on Al-Ghouta, Adra, Al-Qalamoun, Damascus' rural regions, Al-Rastan in Homs, Hama's neighboring areas and Suraqeb in Idlib.
Multi-winged aircraft dropped "barrel bombs" on neighborhoods in Aleppo, the city's rural areas, Inkhel, Tafas, Nawa, Dael, Al-Yadoda in Deraa's rural areas, locations in Al-Rastan and mountainous spots in Lattakia.
The statement said dozens of people, including children, were killed in the these intensive air attacks. It confirmed that many of the dead were ISIL fighters and warriors of the other Islamic groups.
Heavy damage was also inflicted as a result of the escalatory strikes.
