The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said Wednesday in its weekly report that there are currently more than 80,400 Syrian refugees in Lebanon. According to the report, the number of registered refugees has reached 56,947, in addition to 23,535 refugees waiting for official registration. The organization said the Syrians were displaced due to the violence in their country and were facing difficulties when crossing the border to seek refuge in Lebanon. \"Crossing into Lebanon is still dangerous. There are difficulties including security check up, bribery and landmines, and even after crossing into Lebanon, many of the refugees are settling in (Lebanese) border towns which are witnessing recurrent shelling from the Syrian side,\" said the report. Meanwhile, the agency criticized the Lebanese General Security for not allowing it to visit the detained Syrian nationals who had crossed illegally into Lebanon.
