Egypt welcomes the ceasefire agreement declared Thursday by Russia and includes a nationwide ceasefire in Syria, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
Egypt called on all parties to commit to the agreement that is considered a step toward ending the suffering of Syrians as a result of violence and fighting as well as resuming the political talks, added the statement.
The agreement comes in line with Egypt's firm stance since the beginning of the Syrian crisis which states that the only solution to the crisis is the political one that would meet the Syrians' aspirations, stopping bloodshed in the country and preserving Syria's unity and sovereignty, noted the statement.
Egypt, said the statement, affirmed the importance of combating heinous terrorism in Syria and the Arab region.
