UN deputy spokespman Edward del Buey said Monday the United Nations is closely watching recent developments in Egypt pertaining to constitutional declaration issued by Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi last week. Speaking in a press conference, he pointed out that UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is paying his attention towards Egypt to see what will happen in coming days. He added that UN Human Rights Commissioner previously voiced concerns over the possible huge ramifications of this declaration on human rights and the rule of law in Egypt. President Morsi has earlier issued a constitutional declaration that grants himself extended powers, the matter which provoked raging controversy and triggered waves of protests nationwide.
