Some 22 Iraqis were killed and another 94 others injured in separate bomb attacks on civilian gatherings and local markets across the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on Monday. At least eight people were killed and 43 injured when a bomb went off at a busy shopping centre in the commercial Karrada district, a senior security source told KUNA. The explosion resulted in a huge fire, which left rescue workers and medics struggling to pull out burning bodies from under the smoldering wreckage. The incident followed another blast, only half an hour earlier, of an explosive-laden car at a road junction in the same area, which left two dead and five others wounded. In the meantime, Iraqi police have imposed a strict quarantine on the area amid fears of further attacks. In Orr neighbourhood, east of the capital, another two consecutive car explosions close to a medical centre led to the death of 10 civilians and the injury of 28 others, police said. Meanwhile, an attack in Sadr district left two people dead and eight injured, also by an explosive-laden car. The same district witnessed another attack by an improvised device, which left five injured, in a local market. In western Baghdad the neighbourhood of Ghazaliya was also a victim of an improvised explosive device which injured three civilians, with two members of the neighbourhood watch group, Al-Sahwa, injured in another improvised device attack in the southern Dawra district.
