Two people were killed and several wounded in unrest inside a major prison near the Libyan capital Tripoli, Libya’s official news agency LANA reported Saturday The inmates rioted overnight, torching parts of the Ain Zara Prison, south-west of Tripoli, and attacking guards in an attempt to escape, deputy prison chief Ashraf Zayed was quoted by the agency as saying.An ensuing stampede left two prisoners dead – a Libyan and a national from sub-Saharan Africa, according to the official.Security forces quelled the “rebellion” and foiled the jailbreak attempt, Zayed said, stating: “The situation is now under control.
