At least nine people were killed in different incidents of violence in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi in the last 24 hours, said police on Saturday. According to police reports, a gunfiring incident at an Afghan refugees camp within the remit of the Gulshan-i-Maymar police station and on the Shah Faisal Bridge in Karachi killed two people. Moreover, former politician deputy Nazim of Union Council, Zafarr Iqbal, was killed as some unknown militants opened fire on him in Laquatabad area of the city. The police officials told that one person was shot dead in Kemaris Sikanderabad area and an infants body was recovered from a garbage dump near the citys Bhens Colony. Unknown assailants on Karachis University Road and in the citys Qasba Colony killed two more people in different incidents of firing. Another incident of violence killed one person and wounded another as a result of firing on a hotel in Manghopirs MPR Colony. One person succumbed to his injuries following a firing incident in the citys Baldia Town area of Karachi. Karachi is the capital city of southern Pakistani province Sindh and an economic hub of Pakistan that is facing violence since last many years. The city has been a target of terrorism, sectarian violence and mafia wars, killing an estimated 1700 people in 2011, 2300 people in 2012 and 1700 lives have been claimed in the current year so far. The security forces have conducted number of operations in many parts of the city but the violent incidents have not yet been reduced.
