At least one civilian was killed and four others including two women wounded on Sunday during an exchange of fire across the working border between India and Pakistan near eastern Silakot city's Charwah and Mirajkey sectors, said officials.
Pakistan Rangers claimed that Indian soldiers indiscriminately opened fire early Sunday morning in Sialkot's Mirajkey and Charwah sectors, killing one man and wounding four others including two women and a child.
Rescue teams immediately reached the attack site and shifted the injured to a military hospital in Sialkot.
According to local media reports, the shelling and firing from across the border had also killed several livestock. Punjab Rangers taking effective measures retaliated the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) unwarranted firings.
The local residents of the sector were of the view that Indian border forces resort to unprovoked firing and shelling mostly during Ramadan and on the occasion of Muslim festivals.
Earlier on July 16, two Pakistani soldiers were wounded in an exchange of fire between Indian and Pakistani forces in Charwah sector near Sialkot.
